Created by Stefano Canturi, an Australian jewellery designer, a Barbie doll in a strapless black evening dress and a one-carat square-cut pink diamond went for $302,500 to an anonymous bidder in an auction house, Christie's. The yield of the sale will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

*I was once Barbie-obsessed. Although times have changed and my pursuit in amassing these dolls has passed on, this one in particular is interestingly fascinating. This Barbie looks refined, simplistic yet sophisticated in its own way. At the price it fetches, no doubt there would be critics. But I reckon, as speculated, it would be a good investment since these days, investors are falling back to gems and jewelleries instead of stocks and bonds.
